Hello Bryan Thank you for asking the question.
I am Dr. Adil Ramzan
I will be answering your question today.
The aortic aneurysm is in the ascending aorta, and its 4.19 cm in diameter. Now your surgeon may use two approaches, either he will go for an elective sugery to repair the aneurysm or he will monitor it for a year, if the aneurysm was found to be increasing in size then he will go for surgery. 4.19 cm is moderate risk, Anurysms in asceding having aneurysm size index (ASI) of greater than 4.25cm/m2 are at high risk of developing complications.
Surgery is the definitive treatment,
Control the risk factors to delay or stop the risk factors, such as hypercholesterolemia, hypertension or diabetes (if you have any of these).
Best of luck and Get well soon. Follow your surgeon’s advice and do as he says.
Regards.

Thank you for the reply.
If the aneurysm is symptomatic, that is you are having chest pain, dizzy spells, shortness of breath etc, then it should be repaired.
Yes, a second opinion is always the best option when you have doubts in your mind. If you are having problems and your doctors say that the having the aneurysm is a contributing factor then your doctor should consider a repair. If the follow-up investigations show that aneurysm is increasing in size then it must be repaired if not contra-indicated.
get well soon.
