Medical QuestionsCategory: Abdominal ProblemsMy problem is, I have a bloated belly.
Emily asked 8 years ago

I’ve had it since I was a kid.I thought it was normal then because kids usually have a little high belly. But I grew older and I still have the same bloated belly. I am 19 years old, I weigh 98 lbs and my height is 5’1. I usually try exercising to see if it will help but it didn’t. I usually eat alot also but when I was younger I was a picky eater. However, its frustrating because I cannot diet to make my belly flat because I am already skinny and I don’t want to get thinner. Its something that has been bothering me for a long time. So is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

Dear Emily I am Dr. Adil Thank you for asking the question.  your symptoms can be a sign of Pott belly or it may be a simple weakness of abdominal muscles.  In order to confirm it, you should undergo some tests such as abdominal ultrasound, an erect abdominal X-Ray, or Abdominal and Pelvic CT scanning. We may also need to do some blood test including, Serum thyroid stimulating hormone, cortisol levels (at 8 AM), serum calcium, albumin, phosphate, CPK, LDH and ANA levels. These tests help us to determine an organic cause of your problem, if we don’t find an organic cause then we may suggest some diets or exercises, but first we should rule out an organic cause.  So please get an expert opinion from an internal medicine specialist in your area.  If you have any further question. Please feel free to ask. Best Regards. Dr. Adil Ramzan
