Hello I am diabetic, 51 y/o female, my doctor has today prescribed me a new medicine called Lipitor? should I use it? My cholesterol is 180, which is still within normal range.

Thank you Shumaila for asking the question. 
Lipitor contains atorvastatin, which is a cholesterol lowering agent. I’d say that your cholesterol is near to borderline, moreover, we see all the parameters of fasting lipid profile, we also see HDL, LDL, Triglycerides levels and VLDL levels in addition to cholesterol, you may the value of one of these levels out of range, moreover, Studies suggested that use of Lipitor in diabetic patients helps to prevent or delay the complication of diabetes, such as heart disease, micro and macrovascular diseases. So I am agreeing with your doctor’s approach, you should start using it, just monitor its side effects, check your liver function tests every six months.
